Cool Great to be on Board!

Great to be in the Forum

To start things off here is my system:

    Vinyl

Re-Built Thorens TD150 with custom made plinth & modified suspension (by me)
Silvernote hand built tone arm (not by me)
    Goldring E3
    Rega Mini II Phono stage

    Streaming

    Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6

    CD

Old Arcam Alpha+ Still good even now

    Amplifier

    Roksan Kandy KA1 MkIII Integrated

    Speakers

Custom built (by me) Tannoy HPD295A 10" Dual Concentric in 105litre cabinets, with Batpure Supertweeter, Van Damme cables internally, Standard Crossover

    Cables

All DIY from designs on TNT.

Speaker Cable is 6 lines of Cat7 braided in pairs terminated in Locking Banana Plugs

    Interconnects are TNT x 1.5

    Room

6.5m x 5.5m, lots of soft furnishing, hard floor with big deep rug right in front of Speakers to kill first relections from floor

    Result

    In a word: "staggering".

In a few more words: Typical big Tannoy sound with silky smooth mid-range and vocals, Very hard, attacking bass from the 10" Tannoy (in my opinion better than the 15"). Added sparkle, soundstage and imaging with the Batpure (yes it does work, do not ask my why).

The Thorens with the better plinth and arm/cartridge is rock solid and dynamic (40+ years old!)

The Roksan displays tight control over the very sensitive Tannoys and with 115w pc into 8 Ohms and double that into 4 Ohms the headroom and dynamics are startlingly good.

Arcam Alpha+ CD is good but not a patch on the vinyl or the Stream Magic

Stream Magic sounds nothing like a digital source in this system, very similar in character to the Vinyl.

Welcome Sandy, looks like you've got some great kit there, and I know there will be some interest regarding your Tannoys. Shame the pictures thing isn't working (not on my laptop anyway).

Looks like you have a great system. It would be nice to see the pics. You will probably have to use something like Imgur to be able to add them (it is free). Have you ever been to the Audiojumble at Tonbridge. It was originally at Southborough.

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Hi Sandy, welome to AoS. Like the sound of your system.
Listening is the act of aural discrimination and dissemination of sound, and accepting you get it wrong sometimes.

Analog Inputs: Pro-Ject Signature 10 TT & arm, Benz Micro LP-S, Michel Cusis MC, Goldring 2500 and Ortofon Rondo Blue cartridges, Hitachi FT5500 mk2 Tuner

Digital:- Marantz SA-KI Pearl CD player, RaspberryPi/HifiBerry Digi+ Pro, Buffalo NAS Drive

Amplification:- AudioValve Sunilda phono stage, Krell KSP-7B pre-amp, Krell KSA-80 power amp

Output: Wilson Benesch Vector speakers, KLH Ultimate One Headphones

Cables: Tellurium Q Ultra Black II RCA & Chord Epic 2 RCA, various speaker leads, & links

I think I am nearing audio nirvana, but don’t tell anyone.
