Hi all.

I've recently bought one of these for the input chain to my R2R.

It's an SPL Volume 2.

From the off it sounds very nice but people on the net have been updating parts inside to make bring it up to another level. Maybe improve the bass and transparency a little?

It's design inside looks spartan but it uses decent enough components (so I've read).

Some on the net have changed some caps and the opamps (YUK) and some have even suggested changing the control. Although it's Alps it should be fine.

From what I've read is that it's an unbalanced design internally but inputs and outputs balanced? - I dunno.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest anything to pep it up a bit?

Another option for me is simply a pot in a box but this came up at a good price as I paid less than it's £350 - £400 RRP.
