Today in the UK (with the previous day's figures shown in brackets below): https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/:
Positive tests: 45,066 (42,776).
Deaths: 157 (136).
Hospitalisations: 719 (754).
So... Disappointingly, new cases continue to rise. Question is: is it another spike, or as Gary suggested yesterday, Covid infections being lumped in with flu? The latter is only going to get worse as we enter winter in earnest, so there has to be a genuinely *accurate* way of differentiating between both, certainly for those who question the efficacy, in that respect, of PCR tests.
Fortunately however, the rise in new cases so far hasn't translated into increased hospitalisations, which continues on a downwards trend, but for how long if new cases continue to rise? Deaths are up slightly too, but so far only to around the level expected, given the high levels of both flu and Covid among the population.
In Wales today (with the previously recorded figures shown in brackets below):
New cases: 2,635 (2,266).
Deaths: 12 (4).
New infections also sneaking up in Wales, possibly for similar reasons.
