UK-wise, the stubbornly high stat is new cases... Thought it'd be down today, but something seems to be causing a bit of a spike.

Deaths, overall, are still heading in the right direction, and hospitalisations remain stable.

Deaths: 8 (8).

There also seems to be a spike in new cases in Wales. Let's hope that both are shortlived.

So... Positives? New cases haven't risen again, and indeed have notably reduced, and deaths are stable. Slight negatives? Hopspitalisations are creeping up again. Let's hope that doesn't continue, and with the weekend coming up, we won't really know until Tuesday.

New cases: 5,705 (3.400).

Deaths: 23 (8).

Not great news here, as the spike in new cases continues, and now deaths are rising. Hopefully, this is as bad as it gets before things improve.

Usual artificially low deaths for a Sunday, and I don't think the hospitalisations figure has been updated yet from yesterday. However, new cases has, and I suspect it's pretty accurate and still going in the right direction (down from an earlier spike).

One theory for the recent increase in hospitalisations is it simply being a catch up from the previous spike in new infections, as it follows that the more new cases there are, subsequently the more hospitalisations there'll be - but the latter may take a while to show up. Therefore, if hopefully new cases continue to fall, so will hospitalisations, as one drives the other.

Anyway, as is customary now, a look back to where we were last Sunday:

Positive tests: 30,439 (30,301).

Deaths: 43 (121).

Hospitalisations: 755 (768).

So, as can see, although we've seen a recent rise in hospitalisations, the situation isn't too dissimilar from last week, and deaths remain stable. The main difference is in new cases, which in terms of reducing the influence, threat and spread of this virus, is the figure we want to see going down the most.

We'll see where we are on Tuesday.
