From yesterday:

New cases notably up, but I suspect there's been a bit of a catch up after the weekend, due to the delay in data updating, so that may account for the rise in those figures. In that respect, we'll see what Tuesday's 'hike' brings. I think they'll possibly be lower.

...and so it proved. Best Tuesday figures for a long time, and the first time hospitalisations have gone below 700 during this 3rd wave, plus deaths are down too, by 15.5%. Long may the figures continue in this direction!

New cases: 1,758 (3,986).

Deaths: 2 (17).

Again, as I thought, yesterday's figured were falsely inflated, due to a catch up in data. We'll see where things go for the rest of the week.

As a point of reference, here are last Tuesday's figures (with the previous day's in brackets):

Positive tests: 34,526 (37,960).

Deaths: 167 (40).

Hospitalisations: 706 (775).


And the Tuesday before that:

Positive tests: 31,564 (36,000).

Deaths: 203 (49).

Hospitalisations: 861 (930).


And the Tuesday before that:

Positive tests: 26,628 (30,825).

Deaths: 185 (61).

Hospitalisations: 1009 (1076).

What's interesting is that in most instances new cases have been lower than they are now, but they've been up and down like a yoyo, reflecting spikes occurring for various reasons, but in recent weeks this has levelled of and currently shows a downwards trend of 3%. I believe that trend will continue in the coming weeks and result in a marked and sustained reduction.

BUT...Look at the figures for hospitalisations (in red), and where we were 3 weeks ago, with 1076 at its peek, the day before the stats shown! Now that figure is 642. Deaths have also continued to fall.

Therefore, without doubt, things are going in the right direction, and I believe this marks a turning point and a sustained reduction in all areas, new cases, deaths and hospitalisations, so that by the beginning of November, we'll be in a much better place

Granty, it would be interesting if you could do a similar thing with the Scottish stats, and show progress from where things were 3 weeks (or a month) ago until now

New cases stubbornly refuse to fall, although I suspect the sharp rise on yesterday's figures may partly be due to a catch up on data. We'll find out tomorrow, if they drop back down again to around yesterday's levels, which I suspect will be the case.

Deaths continue to fall, now by nearly 15%, which is good, and hospitalisations remain stable, but still on a downwards trend of 5.4%.
