I agree, suppressing "free speech" is not a good thing, but when you get silly sods* suggesting that the vaccines will carry tracking microchips (just something I heard somewhere), a line has to be drawn. As some folk will believe that crap and have their opinion skewed.

Dr Martin Kulldorff, is a Swedish statistician, epidemiologist and Professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and has worked closely with some of the world’s leading scientific and medical institutions.

Alongside Dr Sunetra Gupta, Professor of Theoretical Epidemiology in the Department of Zoology at Oxford University and Dr Jay Bhattacharya, Professor of Medicine and Economics at Stanford University, they have published The Great Barrington Declaration.

The Declaration comprises a much debated and considered petition that has called on those in the corridors of power to reformulate their response to the pandemic and put an end to the blanket lockdowns, that are crippling the economy, destroying business and damaging the physical and mental wellbeing of our citizens.

They call for "Focussed Protection" and suggest that young adults and children, the least affected by the virus, be allowed to continue their lives without restriction. This includes ensuring that the elderly and most vulnerable members of our society are shielded from exposure and protected from a virus risk, representing a thousandfold difference between the oldest and youngest in terms of impact.

There is genuine concern about the future. Of course, we have to deal in the here and now, but, Covid-19 is not going anywhere, it will be with us indefinitely. Which is why many scientists believe that overtly safeguarding ourselves from the virus will only serve to delay the inevitable.

It is far from a radical train of thought. It comes from a group of people who clearly care deeply about society and its citizens. They rely on logic and evidence and a heavy dose of pragmatism.

Listening to experts whose very livelihoods centre around exactly what we are dealing with, is paramount to our prosperity moving forward. The world is not just facing a physical threat, we are also on the brink of a global mental health crisis that could have dire consequences in the years that follow. The collateral damage requires equal thought and attention.

There is a need, now more than at any time during this pandemic, to look at the data. To consider our options, and use the knowledge we have gained throughout these past months to formulate a logical roadmap, that can lead us some way back to normality. Dr Kulldorff is an expert in the truest sense of the word, and it’s a pleasure to spend some time exploring his views.

True. I don't agree with the anti-vaxxers but they should be able to state their case without being legislated against.

Indeed; there's a difference though between 'anti-vaxxers', with a history of behaving as such [especially those with malicious intent], and folks simply expressing their legitimate concerns over the genuine safety, both in the short and long term, of the forthcoming and largely untried vaccines for Covid-19.

Both should be allowed in the interests of free speech in a supposedly democratic and free society, thus left uncensored. There's a danger now of creating a culture of censoring everything that either challenges the accepted norm or what the authorities consider as 'correct' - and that's a very dangerous and slippery slope to go down.

Quite simply, any decisions made by our authorities should always be open to close scrutiny/questioning/challenging or criticism, and if necessary rejection by the general population, as if not, that's the fastest way towards fascism and the creation of a police state... So I would always fight for the right to such free speech, and not simply the blind obeying of what any 'experts' or authorities say or want us to do.

That's the only way of retaining both a free society, and most importantly a free mind!

I agree there with every word. One of the biggest problems just now is that the government are being led (or let's hope it's that and not something more sinister) by the wrong science, thus wrong advice, and which is why they've made such a pig's ear of this whole thing!

Even more importantly, the general population, not just in this country, but that of the whole world, unless making the required effort themselves to seek out alternative scientific views, in terms of how this pandemic should be handled instead, are being deprived of that information and simply fed 'our way or the highway' by the governments and media.

Instead, there should be much more discussion and debate of these matters in the public domain and mainstream TV and media, so that people can make the most INFORMED choices, for THEM and the RIGHT decisions for THEM, many of which now are massively important for their lives and futures, rather than simply accepting what is deemed as 'best' by the government.

However, with the help of the Internet and social media 'alternative truths' are getting out now and helping to dilute the brainwash, along with more information, both scientific and political, other than what the authorities want us to know, which can only be a good thing - and AoS will certainly be doing its part to facilitate that and ensure that everyone reading this thread, on Google searches or whatever, are kept as well informed as possible on matters relating to the handling of this pandemic.

Yes there is that's why i specifically referred to 'Anti-Vaxxers' and not just those who are understandably not 100% about taking a very rapidly developed vaccine for Covid.

Great post Anthony, well reasoned. Pretty much what Marco has been saying, but without the "Global elite are using it to control us" and "It's all BJ-boy's fault" rhetoric

Hopefully the science can minimise the impact of the elderly and sick coming into contact with younger people, through better and more easily accessed testing with more immediate diagnoses. Because actually isolating our elderly would also be disastrous.

Yes, and I'm not advocating censorship as such, but people posting potentially harmful (mis)information should be accountable, and not be able to hide behind their laptops/mobile phones.
