Is that why you're allowed out for a drink provided it comes with a sit down meal? Line your stomach so you're less likely to get pissed and be a knob?

We rarely go to pubs just to drink anyway, so it suits us! Quality pub grub in a convivial setting, in good company and with pleasant and friendly staff (no riff-raff), is always the main attraction, as well as quality local real ales, should such be on offer...

BUT - the food always comes first!

I think that's the reasoning behind it, and those more likely to want to go to these type of places are as you say; less likely to be falling all over each other after downing 5 pints on an empty stomach!

Who will govern the governors? There is only one force in the nation that can be depended upon to keep the government pure and the governors honest, and that is the people themselves. They alone, if well informed, are capable of preventing the corruption of power, and of restoring the nation to its rightful course if it should go astray. They alone are the safest depository of the ultimate powers of government.

So, do you have a really crap memory, or was you born forty?

That sort of thing is not for me, not any more, but in my yoof I'd have go at pretty much anything, often to excess, and I turned out ok Course it's all different these days, a lot get pissed before they even leave the house, and when coke gets thrown into the mix (ridiculously commonplace these days) there's no reasoning with them. So getting them to comply with Covid regs? No chance!

Course this isn't every punter, just enough of them to ruin it for everyone

Done plenty of that stuff when I was in my teens, but as soon as they were over, I got bored with the idea of 'going out and getting pissed', especially as there wasn't the same attraction in it for me, as I'd been used to drinking alcohol (albeit in small quantities) since I was about 10 (wine diluted with water at meals).

The drinks cabinet at home was always full of all sorts of stuff my parents enjoyed, and I didn't feel tempted to 'raid it', simply because I was introduced to alcohol early in life and so it wasn't a big deal. From about 12/13 onwards I was enjoying a small aperitif before lunch with my parents, then a small glass of wine with meals (it's an Italian thing), so unlike with Brits I had no compulsion to 'go mental', when I was 18 and legally allowed to drink in pubs - just a different culture, which I still practice now

There's WAY too much obsession in this country with alcohol and going out and getting drunk - too many pissheads, which you simply don't get to the same extent abroad. I enjoy alcohol, but always in moderation and so would have ZERO interest in getting into such a state that I was sick or couldn't stand up, and just behaving like a total idiot (I can do the latter sober), so simply wouldn't go there.

I'm taking my dad out for lunch on Friday, before Wales enters a 2-week lockdown, to a nice country pub within 20 mins from my front door, so looking forward to that, as is he... Nice pint of local real ale and some top-notch grub, well away from any pisshead chavs!

Some of these "Brit Cop" type TV shows are done in Wales - can we expect to see some footage of your dad holding your post-lockdown hair back while you be sick in the gutter?
