Current worldwide figures collated by Johns Hopkins (@ 7pm GMT 25/5/20)
    Total confirmed: 5,453,784
    Global Deaths: 346,293

So that's just over 6.25 % death rate.
That's the case death rate, actual death rate of all who have contracted Coronavirus is of course impossible to know, but I expect it to be a small percentage of your figure.

Not sure about anyone's expectations but know what you mean.

Given the figures are based solely on Hospital confirmed cases and Deaths and not "real world" numbers...it's the best 'snapshot' model we probably have?
(Comes from a valid source at least)

Both numbers of course can vary from whats actually the case...and probably not for the better.

    Sadly.

    Oh fuck, no!

Some of my customers used to love that sort of thing, though (I sold art and did picture framing, as part of my business), so folk wanting their portrait painted, self, family or pet, was very common. Pretty good money in it, too

Btw, the properties I rent out are just small terraced houses in Wrexham, nothing 'fancy', so don't get the idea that I'm some sort of property tycoon!

What I do like though is being as self-sufficient as possible and not in debt or financially beholden to anyone, so when I buy stuff (anything major, houses, cars, etc) I like to own it outright and have some sort of asset. If I can't afford to buy something outright, I don't. Worse thing is anyone having control over you, financial or otherwise, as it leaves you vulnerable and easily manipulated, which I hate. Always try and be your OWN master in charge of your OWN 'Island', and where possible, destiny...!

I learned that was a smart move when I was fairly young.

This guy, talking on the This Morning programme, on ITV, I feel is very much worth listening to.

He's pretty much spot on with my own views on the *actual need* for a vaccine, how FEAR has conditioned everyone [as I've said] to behave in a certain way and be afraid to leave their homes, which is bad, and how we need to get out of lockdown and the country going again ASAP - and crucially stating, as this guy's specialty is cancer, that MORE people will end up dying from cancer-related illnesses, if he can't start treating his patients SOON, than have so far died from Coronavirus!

Anyway, have a listen, as he's professional, down to earth, totally unbiased (no financial or political agenda), and talks a lot of sense:

He's probably right about people being afraid to seek treatment, but there's no reason to stop looking for a vaccine, firstly because a vaccine would give patients confidence to seek treatment, and medical staff protection from infection, which they might otherwise pass on. There may of course not be a 'second wave', but chances are there will be. It's not an either/or situation; as well as vaccines, we need to identify treatments in case a suitable vaccine can't be found. All the scare stuff about vaccines is based on the mistaken belief that one will be ready in the next few months, although the scientific consensus is that it will take a year minimum, and may never be found.

The dangers of lifting lockdown too swiftly was shown in Germany recently, where 60 worshippers at a church which had just re-opened contracted the virus (10 of them were hospitalised), even though the building had been disinfected and the congregation all wore masks.

Well, as usual Joe, we'll mostly have to agree to disagree. I do understand your points, but I stand by what I said and agree with the cancer specialist in question. COVID-19, in due course, will most likely 'peter out', as other viruses have done in the past. You can see it happening already. Yes, there may be a second wave, but now that we know more about what we're dealing with, we should be better prepared, in terms of being able to ISOLATE (crucial in the early stages) and contain it.

Therefore, the pertinent point is, having everyone vaccinated ASAP, by any which means necessary, in order to end the lockdown and give people their lives back (read as FREEDOM), when the virus is currently on its way out and cases on the decline, should NOT be be the government's main priority! Stopping any further spread (by any necessary and reasonable means) and getting the economy going again, businesses reopened, and people back to work, is!

As I've said before, I'm not anti-vaccines, far from it, if they've been produced safely for the right reasons. However, I'm VERY MUCH ANTI any vaccine for Coronavirus that has been rushed through the system (which would be the case if one is able to be rolled out as early as September) and which I believe has not been properly tested as safe, instead designed purely for profit, and crucially one in which Bill Gates has had his grubby paws on, for questionable nefarious intent. I'd rather die first. Yes, I feel *that* strongly about it!

So when/if there is ever a vaccine I can trust is 100% safe, and also effective against COVID-19, and the virus is still with us in a problematic way, then I may consider having it. However, I'm pretty sure I've had COVID-19 already, as about 3 weeks ago I experienced all the main symptoms, which thankfully were only mild (in that respect I'd take a test to confirm such or otherwise), and if I have had it, clearly my immune system was able to effectively deal with it. TBH, I've had far worse flu - and I don't even take the jab for that!

Therefore, come what may again in future, in respect of Coronavirus, I'm perfectly happy to let my immune system deal with it (as I'm fit, strong, healthy and still reasonably young), than be injected with a vaccine I don't consider is safe and that contains goodness knows what, or effective. Jeez, we don't even have a vaccine yet for previous Coronaviruses, such as SARS-CoV1 or MERS, and after 40-odd years we still don't have an effective one for HIV, and for good reason, as creating a 100% safe and effective vaccine for any virus or disease is hugely time-consuming and complex.

Watch this video from US virologist, Dr Djaballah, who explains the challenges of creating an effective and safe vaccine, and why they often don't work! It contains some very good and useful information:

And in terms of fear, the most important fear we need to address RIGHT NOW, as the cancer specialist said on This Morning, is the fear many people have of leaving their homes and in slowly returning to normal life, particularly the elderly who are still fit enough to get out and about, but are too scared to do so, and the danger *that* is having - and longer it goes on, will continue to have, on their mental health.
