Steve is right Marco, I am amazed that you have never had an inoculation for tetanus, you really should have one - the bacteria is all over the place and it doesn't take a "major wound" to get infected, agricultural workers were particularly at risk through even small wounds from thorns, rusty tools etc.

It's a real nasty infection is Tetanus....a booster is recommended every 10 years..and some doctors recommend every 5 years

Other illnesses you get or at least got were whooping cough, polio, diphtheria etc.

Marco, both yourself and Del should arrange an appointment as soon as possible for the tetanus jab.
I remember that you were saying that you were getting in to gardening to help with self sufficiency and even the smallest wound provides an opportunity for infection - it would only take a little prick, even if your tool isn't rusty
