I would guess (and it is only that) that if Russia were involved in the independence vote it would be trying to encourage a split in the UK - amongst many other things it would be with the intention of disrupting our nuclear sub capabilities, where else in the UK is there a suitable base other than Faslane? (also there could be a link because of Alex Salmonds work with RT?).

yes, but Spain are highly unlikely to send in the tanks and troops if one of their regions decides to go it alone. Whereas that's no problem for Russia.
Spain has said they would veto an attempt by an independent Scotland to join the EU which would leave Scotland dependant on English currency and therefore English economic policy. Or if they could get in the EU, dependant on the Euro and - effectively - Germany's economic policy. Look how well that's worked out for Spain, Portugal, Ireland and Greece.
The only way Scotland would be truly independent is if they had their own currency that was not pegged to someone else's. I've yet to see a credible theory that suggests how that could come about.
