Things may not be ideal, but they are far better than the privations folks faced during and immediately after WW2. Rationing that led to near starvation diets, crumbling industries and unemployment, horrible and deadly sicknesses we don't ever hear about now. Such as high infant mortality, Diphtheria, Polio and Smallpox.

And 'heaven forbid', no internet or mobile phones, let alone Smartphones etc. No television. No supermarkets. Oh, and few had cars!

If you'd moaned about 'mental health' back then, you'd have got a clip around the ear and be told to pull your socks up (or banged up for actually being nuts).

ive found out a fair bit about myself through this and found that maybe i will change the way i live out my life too. freedom is a precious thing that we should embrace, but it has to be responsible freedom. Even a taste of freedom curtailment has affeted many, so imagine if you ended up living like Chinese or other countries that just force you to do what they want.
So everyone needs to keep their guard up for their own safety, that of their fellows and make sure governments do as WE want them to.

Spot on Marco. I wouldn't want to be the one planning for all this but it's not simple. Perhaps some folk forget that.
I love Hendrix for so many reasons. He was so much more than just a blues guitarist - he played damn well any kind of guitar he wanted. In fact I'm not sure if he even played the guitar - he played music. - Stevie Ray Vaughan

Yes of course, and I acknowledge that. Your argument (and similar) has been presented many times before, but whilst it is relevant, it doesn't really fit, in terms of acting as an effective comparison with the current situation.

Firstly, the world is a very different place now, and subsequently so are the people who populate it [as are their respective needs, based on the former], so you can't really apply 20th century principles to modern day living.

Secondly, whilst all you say is true, at least families could mix, pubs and restaurants/cafes/dance halls/cinemas were open, where people could socialise, have fun and take their minds off of the drudgery of everyday life (as you've outlined), and if you had a car (count my parents and grandparents in) you could travel around, go to the seaside, etc.

Unlike now...! Where fundamentally we have much LESS FREEDOM... *That* is the key point!

And crucially, where there exists a different type of "everyday drudgery", which is no less painful or real in its own right, BUT where we're all being kept prisoners in our own homes, climbing the same four walls, day after day, now since 20th of December, and before that too with the previous lockdown, and a daftee here (lol) is suggesting that we should just 'put up' with another 3 months of this hell..., and who knows whether even once everyone has been vaccinated, that we won't be facing a similar situation again this winter??

Nothing is certain with this virus, but at some point we going to have to learn to live with it (just like we do with many other fatal diseases), rather than continually living in fear of it.

But to demean the very real hardships that many are facing now, and which most of us here are fortunate enough to have been able to avoid, by essentially saying 'Oh give it a rest, as folks had it much worse in the old days during the war' is both disrespectful, mate, and fundamentally misses the point.

    Just my view

    Marco.

    Just a thought!

Remember, it's not just about what suits YOU (or others of the same mindset), or even just all about the virus, as important and serious a consideration as that is. There are many other very important things the government has to consider, especially now that there is a significant level of immunity in the population among those who's been vaccinated, and subsequently infection rates are markedly falling, and will continue to fall, and we move through the age groups.

Personally, I can't wait until the 12th March, when our lockdown in Wales ends, and get a bloody haircut!!

I'd go bloody NUTS with another 3 months of this!! And vast tracts of the population no doubt feel the same.

    Marco.
but...would you not rather go nuts for a few months more, than you or someone close to you or just someone you know potentially could be critcally ill..or even dead...?..not wishing to sound NEGATIVE...by the way...
