Totally agree with the smart meter, which is why this year we'll be looking into installing solar panels, as it's another step towards our goal of becoming as self-sufficient as possible

As for getting into the house, they could if a new rule is made authorising the authorities to gain entry to anyone's home who refuses to be spied upon/non-compliance to new laws around surveillance, justified by Covid.

It won't happen, but just sayin'...

Just bear in mind that current legislation for residential in many areas only allows solar panel systems up to 4 kilowatt, which is fine for your usual low draw stuff, ie; TV, HI-FI, Lights etc, etc, however, don't expect to be able to run high curerent Apliances, ie, some tumble dryers, some washing machines, your shower, or imersion heater etc, still, its a good start.

yeah, i think there is a switch of sorts out there somewhere, as they disconnected/connected me to change a feed into neighbours house. but it may actually be just inside my door. im not sure, if mine can be put off outside but the house next door probably can be

There is already legal provision in place for many years for forcing entry for a variety of things, they can force entry to cut off your leccy once they get a Court Order. The only thing they can't cut off is water - unless you are a business.

They have no interest in instituting surveillance over everyone 24/7 - there's absolutely nothing to be gained for them from doing that.

I've asked on this thread multiple times now for someone to explain the point of that to me and each time the question has been ignored.

Is it just that some people like to entertain themselves with the thought that Big Brother is out to get them? Does it make them feel worthwhile and important? I don't know. It's clearly psychological though.

That's mainly what it would be for, and we're thinking of going for one of the new underground installs

As for high current stuff, we have a (water mains) powered shower, not an electric one, plus a big Belfast sink and an old-fashioned 'pulley drier' in the kitchen, to replace the washing machine (never had a tumble drier in this house. Because it's just the two of us, the pulley and leaving clothes on a rack beside the fire have sufficed, or hanging clothes outside on the line to dry during the summer), if the bastards cut us off

Plus the wood-burning stove supplies our heating (plenty for our needs) and can also be used as a cooker lol, as when it's been on for a few hours, the heat on the top plate is as hot, or hotter, than any gas or electric cooker. Plus, we've got a thriving veg and potato patch in our (large) garden, which will be further developed in the spring. And we'll be getting some chickens, and a run, so we'll never starve!

Martin, wealthy and power-hungry dictators (continually seeking to be ever more wealthy and powerful), who've ruled and oppressed their people, have existed for centuries, and continue to exist now. The only difference is (at least so far), in modern times, it's mostly been keep under the radar, but that could be about to change!

Big Brother couldn't even manage to set up an effective track and trace system despite chucking billions at it, I think universal surveillance is a pipe dream at best.
