“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I get my jab tomorrow evening! And a second one in 10 weeks time. I feel happier already.

Think I'll walk to the Surgery. Don't want to go on a bus and fall at the last hurdle.

Phone was a bit busy, so I didn't ask which one it is. I am 66, BTW, so Portsmouth seems to be cracking along.

No worries, i didnt take what Steve said as a referal to me or yourself, as you say; neither of us are what is being termed these days as Anti-Vaxers,[another phrase i have grown to dislike] although i have to admit that we did think long and hard when the time came to take our Daughter for her childhood vaccinations, its a lot harder when it comes to making decisions for those who are in your care, i also had all of my childhood Vaccinations, including the dreaded BCG!

I read what you wrote, but wanted to clarify that by 'anti-vaxxers', you didn't mean the likes of Anthony or me, who certainly won't be touching a Covid vaccine with a bargepole (or others here of a similar mindset), for reasons well-documented, and who aren't "shallow"!
