We don't delete accounts, sorry, Andy. If you don't like it, don't read it. There are plenty of other threads on the forum, on a whole variety of different subjects.

And it isn't "conspiracy theory" it's fact. READ the new laws above!

Scroll down to Section 45G "Power to order health measures in relation to persons". Read ALL of that properly, but specifically subsection (2) (j) and (k):

    '(j)that P be subject to restrictions on where P goes or with whom P has contact;

(k)that P abstain from working or trading.'

    WOT??? COME AGAIN??

Do you understand what that means and its potential implications? There's a lot more stuff in there too, which is quite simply WRONG on any moral or humane grounds.

Note also that under the new amendments to the Act, a Justice of the Peace will be able to enforce the above under the full power of the Secretary of the State!!
Except that this section was part of the original 1984 Act (and quite possibly part of previous infectious diseases Acts that the 1984 Act replaced). It's obvious that if someone has a serious contagious disease they need to limit their contact with others and especially that they don't, for example, run a shop or restaurant where they could potentially infect hundreds of others. Hopefully they would do this voluntarily, but I can see how it might sometimes be necessary to compel them.

Here. for example, is an extract from the Public Health Act 1936:

'Person suffering from notifiable disease not to carry on occupation to danger of others

A person who, knowing that he is suffering from a notifiable disease, engages in or carries on any trade, business or occupation which he cannot engage in or carry on without risk of spreading the disease shall be liable to a fine not exceeding five pounds.'

There's also the Civil Contingencies Act from 2004 which replaced the Emergency Powers Act of 1920 (amended 1964), might be worth learning what potential powers the Government already have before getting so excited about this. We could already have a totalitarian state if that was the aim. The reason it isn't the aim would take a lengthy essay to explain which would no doubt fall on deaf ears so I'm not going to bother.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

I wonder how popular ocean cruises will be when this is all over? Not very, I suspect. I foresee cruise ships rusting away in dockyards following the decline in business and finding willing crew could be tricky. See this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-52722765

Me personally, a cruise ship is the last place on earth I'd want to be and always has been.

Mmm... Still not convinced I'll have to look at it again in more detail.

So what about this section then (and the rest if it) from an entirely new act, introduced only this year:

Please read ALL of it, but pay particular attention to Part 2, Section 6, I quote:

Powers to direct or remove persons to a place suitable for screening and assessment:

6 (1) This paragraph applies if, during a transmission control period, a public health officer has reasonable grounds to suspect that a person in England is potentially infectious.

    (2) The public health officer may, subject to sub-paragraph (3)—

    (a) direct the person to go immediately to a place specified in the direction which is suitable for screening and assessment,

    (b) remove the person to a place suitable for screening and assessment, or

    (c) request a constable to remove the person to a place suitable for screening and assessment (and the constable may then do so).

    (3) A public health officer may exercise the powers conferred by this paragraph in relation to a person only if the officer considers that it is necessary and proportionate to do so—

    (a) in the interests of the person,

    (b) for the protection of other people, or

    (c) for the maintenance of public health.

    (4) Where a public health officer exercises the powers conferred by this paragraph, the officer must inform that person—

    (a) of the reason for directing or removing them, and

    (b) that it is an offence—

    (i) in a case where a person is directed, to fail without reasonable excuse to comply with the direction, or(ii)in a case where a person is removed (by the officer or by a constable), to abscond
    .
Sounds pretty much to me like a police state, with COVID-19 now being used as an excuse to implement fascism! And how will an appointed "heath officer" (you've just got to love the choice of language, as it's *pure* NLP) judge if you're considered as "potentially infectious" - based on what criteria? A cough or a 'funny look'??

Yes, no doubt because they've never had an opportunity before to lockdown the whole bloody country and effectively put us all under house arrest, so that they can actually IMPLEMENT some of those powers in earnest!! Had you thought of that?

The difference now is that, BY LAW, they can use COVID-19 as an excuse to justify all sorts of controlling shit!! So in that respect, we're in entirely new territory. "Unprecedented times" indeed!
