Lol, not necessarily 'conspiracy theory' - I simply don't believe that some of the decisions being made now by the government don't have an ulterior motive, and have never been one for simply sitting back and accepting what the authorities tell me is true!

The problem is; we only realy knew the first time round we had a problem when people started being admited to hospital, up until then, how do we know how many folk had it ? and just thought it was the usual Flu my point is, i think most folk are questioning the reality of the situation, and yes, they are probably using the current situation to impliment things that otherwise they wouldnt have a hope in hell of getting passed the genral public, but i still think there is a potential for this thing to blow up in our faces, if we don't do what's needed to at least safegaurd ourselves, and our nearest and dearest!

I agree that questioning the government's output and even suspecting that they may have hidden agendas is a good sceptical attitude to have, but re this particular disease I think it has taken quite a long while for sufficient really trustworthy "knowledge" to emerge, and there's still way to go.

We have started to be less cautious, but it might only take a few careless actions to lead to big problems. This thing hasn't gone away yet.

Sweden did not have an enforced lockdown but they did advise their people to be cautious, to practice social distancing and so on.

the thinking being that their populace was sufficiently well educated and aware of the dangers to do this off their own bat rather than be made to do it. It wasn't a policy of encouraging herd immunity.

Their pop is less than twice Scotlands, yet country is about 5/6 times bigger.. Their biggest city density is a tenth that of Glasgow, so its an easier thing to keep a lid on. Also as you say they are a more ameniable, better educated and wealthier population so all those factors are in their favour.

And whilst duly considering all therein, I still find myself strongly agreeing with one of the comments below afterwards, from Rhoderick:

Depends if you believe that its the number of covid cases that is the issue, rather than the number of severe cases, which is a vastly different thing, and would determine what sensible and proportionate measures you take to control it... Focus on serious cases not the vast number of those with few or nil symptoms !!!!

Not sure there exists a correlation between common sense/intelligence and the above, as there are plenty of clever folk with almost no common sense, coupled with an inability to act reasonably or responsibly, and who live in a clement environment!

However, I do take your point on board, but regardless think that there was/is significant merit in the Swedish approach. No solution is perfect or without risk in dealing with this virus, but for me, there's more right about their approach than wrong.

And I think it would produce a decent outcome in most countries equipped with the right infrastructure to implement it - and yes I consider that the UK comes into that category.
