“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

I largely agree with the former, but if it came about, strongly disagree with the latter. I don't need to tell you that there are numerous historical examples of the power of the people defeating dictatorships and triumphing over oppression, and that will be the case again, if it should ever happen.

Just remember, there are far more of us than there are of them! Even excluding the apathetic or lazy, and scaredy-cats who don't have the belly to fight for their freedoms

When I was at University 30 years ago there were some people who were practically hysterical about Bush's 'New World Order' and how we were going to become a police state. Or climate change and how the planet would be inhabitable in a decade if nothing was done. None of it ever happened.
I've told you before mate, that's not how it works. You don't go from one minute living in a free country, to waking up in a police state! If that were to become the reality, it would be accomplished by those responsible in cumulative BABY STEPS.

So who's to say that behind the scenes many of said steps haven't already been successfully taken (covertly building an infrastructure), with some of the effects of that covered up or blamed on other things, so that when everything *is* in place, the BIG step can be taken, as there's no longer any need for those responsible to hide?

Very unlikely I know, but just sayin!

However, did you honestly think that in the UK we'd ever have a situation where we've all spent the best part of the last 12 months under virtual house arrest?

I know you have said in previous posts that we would as a nation "take to the streets", in fact I may have read that you would be leading the charge, so I was wondering just which "baby step" might prove to be the tipping point? And what our revolt might look like?

I assume the good fight would take place in the capital. That's 200+ miles. Any chance of a lift? I assume you'd be going in the Brabster, which will carry way more petrol bombs than if we went on the bus Or will you be organising a coach trip? What if the revolt clashes with The Great British Bake off? Do you have Sky+? These are all questions that need addressing

I'd suggest anybody who's survived it will just be incredibly relieved to have done so and not give a toss about the dosh!

Entertaining briefing from Boris, Prof. Chris Whitty and Sir. Patrick tonight.

Vaccines remain our best bet for a living future.

I was out and about last night. Fancied some exercise and stargazing at 10 PM.

On my way back saw 6 youths in a group off together. Can't believe they were 5 brothers with one person in the "support bubble".

As I understand it, you only hang around with one significant other outside.

I was tempted to take these idiots on. But, Hell, it's all about self-preservation now. 6-1 ain't good odds. Let them go home and infect Mommy and Daddy.

A huge fire broke out at India’s Serum Institute plant where they are making the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine. They’re the largest vaccine manufacturer in the world. Five people died and the plant building has been destroyed.

What did our government say about it? “Global output of the vaccine will not be affected”.

Ummm, yes it will. Morons. Just a stupid comment.
