Ah.... Now with MQA Files that's a whole different matter as you need a DAC with the specific MQA hardware chip.

It doesn't mern you can't listen to MQA in roon as Roon will do the first unfold but not the full unfold.

However, as you don't have an MQA DAC, just use Versions and choose the highest bit rate available. (I.e anything Non MQA)

Once initial technical wrinkles are sorted Roon then becomes your fridge...

In the way way it "just works" and you don't need to think about it.
Crying shame to write it off for want of a few teething troubles...sort those and you'll see why folk love it.

Thanks for this and I understand about MQA needing a specific DAC but still don’t understand why my end point is Airplay?

Isn’t Airplay a max of 16 bit so even if I’m sending a higher bit rate file, if it’s playing through Airplay it’s pointless?

So I’m now playing a FLAC file but the info tells me it’s still playing via Shairpoint Sync

What the fudge is that and why the heck is Airplay getting involved.....

My volumio digione shows up as an endpoint in Roon.

I use a pc but should think it will work on mac

My zones also show my Pi as an endpoint but as you can see on the track info it’s playing via Shairpoint / Airplay whatever that is.

shareport is same as airplay, just the name its given to non apple devices i think. so its starting with 16/44 and ending in same. as its apple i dont think it can do higher. a good usb dac on the pc will tho... 16/44 is fine and mostly what you get with tidal etc anyway. ie cd quality..
