Default So what is Roon and why do I need it?

Any Roon experts out there can help in explaining what Roon is / does?

I’m relatively new to this whole Streaming malarkey using a Raspberry Pi 2 B with the Hifiberry Digi Pro Board into a Khadas Toneboard DAC.

I currently run Volumio on the Pi which I then stream Tidal through currently on the ‘My Volumio’ free trial so before I subscribe to this properly I’m wondering if I should buy Roon instead and what benefits there are over my current set up?

I use the Volumio App on my phone 99% of the time rather than through my Mac so is this an option with Roon or is it Mac / PC based?

Couldn’t have put it better myself.

The best music platform currently available. Subscribe to Tidal or Qobus and the choice of millions of tracks are in the palm of your hand at astonishingly high Resolution format.

To Bypass this would surely be a mistake.

Roon works fine with the Raspberry Pi / hats. If you don’t want to keep firing up the laptop, Just get yourself a cheap NUC and use your phone as the remote.

OK so I've downloaded the free trial on my Mac and using my phone as the remote. I'll see how I get on with it over the next 14 days before deciding between that and Volumio.

Only downside I see is having to have my Mac on all the time I want to listen but as you say I suppose I could keep a little Mac Mini running somewhere if it becomes an issue.

Seems more unstable than Volumio though currently with a lot more signal break up - any suggestions what could be causing this?

Also the Roon Remote on my iPhone keeps losing connection to my Mac - just keep coming up with Lost Connection.

Not feeling the love for Roon at the minute.....

    Two things

    1. Hopefully your using cable connection to your laptop and not Wi-Fi.

    2. You need to download Roon Sever to your laptop and the Roon app to your phone or iPad.

Finally, do you have a Tidal subscription? Not mentioned previously.
