Default FS: WAD KiT88 Integrated Power Amplifier

    For Sale my KiT88 amp.

Fitted with Sowter U082s transformers and 6550 valves (which I prefer over the KT88s), I built this from a kit a number of years ago. During that time it has been tweaked and upgraded giving a controlled, fast, detailed and un-fatiguing sound. It is a Push Pull Class AB amplifier outputting 28w and running out to -1db @24Khz and -3db @45Khz. I’ve modified the tape input switch so the Tape In input can be used as a power ampler bypassing the internal volume and selector switch.

    Tweaks and modifications listed below:

Sowter U082s OPTX - feedback cct tweaked to accommodate the transformers
    Matched quad 6550 o/p valves - cathode resistors to 180R for 28W o/p
    Input valve 6AUS Jan Philips
    Splitter Edicron ECC82
    Audio Note Coupling caps
    Blackgate bypass caps
    Tantalum resistors
    Mcaps
    schottky diodes
Alps Blue pot wired in pseudo shunt config
Tape/Source switch rewired: Tape = Power Amp in via Tape In RCA’s; Source = Integrated amp inputs

I’ll be sad to see this amp go it has given me great pleasure over the years but I simply need the space! I’m looking for £850.
The Sowters alone would cost the best part of £600 new and if you twist my arm I’ll throw in the original OPTX as well.

I’m happy to demo the amp and would strongly recommend collection from here (South Bucks) as it weighs a ton and isn’t really suited to shipping! Or I’m prepared to travel, within reason, to drop off or meet up.

    Regards

    Neal

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

    Hi Neal
    Bump for a quality build
Also a question, many years ago I was lucky enough to hear a huge solid state amplifier the brand was also called NRG just wondering if your user name is purely coincidental.
