    Default Charity Shops

    Make my mind Boggle.

The Living Room is finished now as i have had confirmation that the New Sofa & chairs are made & to be delivered Friday.

Before then i have to get rid of the below:

Three seater sofa & chair, approx 1.5 years old still like new
Made.com Orange chair, Probably sat on it three times over the year ive had it.
Long TV cabinet that was not cheap but bought for a 55" TV that got used for a week
55" LCD TV. No more than 6 months old but was only used for a week due to dropping a bollox cos it was way to Big, still got the protective film
    Some Speakers & Record storage

Ive tried three local shops & none can be bothered to pick them up.

Ive a good mind to report the lot of them.

The charity shops here are full of furniture so they must pick it up. There's a BHF one in a former supermarket, loads of furniture and three piece suites for sale, and another big one in a former car showroom, again loads of furniture. There's maybe another 3 or 4 places within walking distance of me but they are in standard size shops with no room to display furniture so I'd guess they would have to refuse it if offered it. Maybe the ones you tried were just too small to take furniture?

Bought a good little 1970s desk lamp from the BHF by me yesterday, one of those with the flexible neck. Only a fiver. In brown ofc. Needs a clean, though, you'd think they'd do that before putting it on sale.

Just gave it a clean with some baby wipes, actually it wasn't too bad except for the plug which was filthy.

Be no good to you though, there's some tiny scuff marks on the base

Anyway, still beats splashing out thirty odd quid on a brand new one.

My missus is the manager at a local charity shop and I do a few hours myself to help out.

The amount of crap that people bring in beggars belief and I say to the missus the shop is a lot closer than the local tip hence why we end up with it. We get bags and bags of clothes than are stained, ripped and soiled in ways I won't mention, books that are ripped and written in, china and glass that is chipped and cracked, toys and games that are broken or parts missing, the list goes on and on, so none of that is in a saleable condition, yet we have to show "gratitude" for these wonderful donations. Wht pisses us off the most is that we have to pay a small fortune to have it disposed of which counts on the shop's overheads costs.

The shop is too small to take in any furniture, yet almost every morning a pile of it is stacked against the shop doorway, so that is more disposal costs to be found. We say to people we are not allowed to take in any donations with electrical items, yet hidden in these bags and boxes is many electrical items which don't work.

No wonder then that my dislike of people grows.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
