    Default Little buggers

Since the Farmers in this area took to rooting out all the hedgerows, a few years ago, we have been inundated with rodents in the lofts. The little buggers have nowhere else to go and seeing a nice warm roof, have moved in.

I gave up with poisoning them as they just go off and die in the lofts and stink. So, I have had 4 traps in the two lofts and very effective they have been too. I check them every 4 - 5 days and usually have a Mouse in every trap and a couple of times, 2 in one. However, the past couple of months, they have been licking out the Peanut Butter without setting off the traps, which means I am now feeding them.

How do they do that and how did they learn to do it in two locations at the same time ?

All I can think of is that there are teensy, weensy Voles, Shrews or baby Mice, too small to trigger the traps.

wow , thats horrible . a number of friends live in old terrace houses in fairly rough roads with rubbish everywhere . one often tells me he caught 5 mice in one night in his traps , actually some of them want to move because of these pests who go from one loft or property to another easily
ou might slip, you might slide, you might
Stumble and fall by the road side
But don't you ever let nobody drag your spirit down
Remember you're walking up to heaven

Don't let nobody turn you around
… Walk with the rich, walk with the poor
Learn from everyone, that's what life is for
And don't you let nobody drag your spirit down

I've been told that Mice are often born pregnant and if left to it you will have 300 by the end of the year. If it was just one or two I might not bother but going by the number I was catching, there are dozens of the buggers in the lofts.

a mouse can average 8 pups a litter and 10 litters a year. the pups are ready to have pups themselves in 6 weeks, so the population can grow rapidly

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

You need to block their access to the loft - blocking access is by far the best method. If you have a dog, he/she will easily find, and alert you to
where they presently are. Set traps certainly for the ones already inside, but physically deal with the way they are getting inside, as a priority.

They will invariably take the easiest path - to them, its like a highway into your loft.

but not like the M6, if it was the M6 they'd get nowhere. When you find the access no need to block it, just set up some roadworks and a couple of contraflows. They'll never get through that.
