    I'm Martyn.

    Default Hello from St Albans

Hi all, just joined, hope to pick some brains and share thoughts with like-minded folk (cheap therapy!)

I'm semi retired and although I've always kept a love of music I'm rekindling my interest in hifi now I've more available time.

Many moons ago I was involved in the trade, Laskys retail and then a few years working for Denon. But my career moved onto other places for the next 25 years.

I have some modest equipment and some old esoteric kit that currently sits unused for practicality issues (house & grown kids still around). We have a holiday home in Brittany, which is a good escape, with Freesat installed for UK radio & TV.

Recently started digitising my old vinyl collection using Audacity to create FLAC files onto an external 2Tb drive, long way to go still.

No doubt I shall come up with some questions soon, meanwhile thanks for the useful info I'm already gaining from the Forum.

    Living room - Old Sony CD/Roku Soundbridge/QED switchbox/NAD C340/Kef Coda7 on Partington Dreadnought stands

    Study - Technics SLDL1/Ortofon MC1/Denon PMA880/Wharfedale Sapphire SP83

    France - Denon DM41/Monitor Audio R700 Gold

    Unused/Stored - Denon DCD3300/Albarry Preamp/Mission 777U

    Welcome to AoS Martyn,

Nice introduction, however given your username I was expecting to learn your holiday home was in Cornwall ( ), but Brittany sounds fantastic .

What are your tastes in music?

Any questions you have then just ask away - we have many knowledgeable Members here who I'm sure will be able to help you.

    Enjoy the Forum

Hi Martyn, you will find lots of knowledgable and helpful people on here, some great gear you have there.

I seem to remember the Mission 777U was a highly rated amp at the time and is quite rare, and the Albarry is rather nice, have you used these for a while?

    Cheers

    Adrian
Listening is the act of aural discrimination and dissemination of sound, and accepting you get it wrong sometimes.

Digital:- Marantz SA-KI Pearl CD player, RaspberryPi/HifiBerry Digi+ Pro, Buffalo NAS Drive

Amplification:- AudioValve Sunilda phono stage, Krell KSP-7B pre-amp, Krell KSA-80 power amp

Output: Wilson Benesch Vector speakers, KLH Ultimate One Headphones

Cables: Tellurium Q Ultra Black II RCA & Chord Epic 2 RCA, various speaker leads, & links

I think I am nearing audio nirvana, but don’t tell anyone.

Adrian I'm embarrassed to admit they were boxed up some while ago when the family moved in with M-i-L to look after her.

10+ years later I've semi-retired and want to ressurect a decent system, but SWMBO is likely to require a degree of functionality and simplicity of use, hence my post earlier this evening on Pre/DAC/Streamer unit(s).
