When I was a young kid we lived next door to the general stores in our street. Our house was seperated from the shop by an alleyway and a gate led to the yard behind the shop which wasn't difficult to climb over. Headed straight for the wooden crates that held the pop bottles and sneaked out with a bottle of corona cherryade under each arm. Drank both bottles and took the empties into the shop and got the deposits back, which was then spent on sweets. Silly old trout that owned the shop never seemed to add the loss of the full pop bottles to the amount she refunded in deposits. I feel rather guilty about my nefarious activities now though

I think Arthur was probably a popular name in the sixties. Ours was named after a white cat who ate his food with his paws off the telly.

I should think so too! You're a bad man

We once had the bright idea of climbing over the wall of a local beer bottling place, nick the empties and take them round the local off licences for refunds. The wall was 8 feet high and topped with broken glass - talk about high risk low reward.

Coppers nabbed us coming back over the wall and thick ears were dished out. Our criminal career ended before it had begun

Our blue was called joey.. He liked tea too and soggy digestives mum dipped in tea. Used to sit on her shoulder and talk in her ear etc and watch TV.. Lived for ages.
My dad got him drunk one n year by putting whisky in his water bottle. It just fell of its perch.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
