Default Looking for a top notch DAC for CD only.

I'm after a decent dac, CD only. Must not be glaring or bright but must be musical, with excellent soundstage, depth, and timbre. Hate digititis. Any knocking about...

Hi Adey, a DDDAC with valve output stage would be perfect for your needs. Do you ever come to London? If so, you are welcome to come and hear one.

I am considering selling my DDDAC which I bought on this forum, due to going to an all in one Hegel.
I’m tempted to keep because its the most enjoyable digital I’ve had so far. I use SPDIF in from my CD player.

I would recommend the Aqua S2 dac for sale on here: superb dac, very musical and non-fatiguing at bargain price.

I have no connection with seller - just a fan of Aqua.

Second this suggestion - Aqua make some of the finest DACs on the planet - Darko was a big fan of the S2 - I'm sure his review is out in the ether somewhere - MH

    Adrian,
How about a Prism Sound Lyra 2? Prism Sound make some of the best professional studio A2D converters and DACS. Their interfaces a res used in major recording studios across the world, including AIR, Abbey Road, Metropolis and Capitol.
The Lyra 2 is a 2 channel A2D and DAC. It uses the same circuitry as the large Titan and Atlas multichannel units, but in a 2 channel unit. I am delighted with mine. I am using it mainly to archive my master tapes at 24/192, but the DAC replay is lovely too. Very natural sound with lots of space - nothing digital, but just totally accurate. New price is £2k, but you will find a used or ex demo one for £1500.
Apart from the excellent DAC, you get a bonus top class A2D in the same money.

I've been offered a Schitt gungnir at a very good price but it's DS not MB but I guess gives an option for upgrading later.
