When I last bought something from a dealer, Sevenoaks in Bristol, I went in on a Saturday with some friends. I told them that I was looking for.a new pair of speakers. We started with £300 speakers set up in a demo room at short notice, with components of the same brand/level driving them.
They brought in several ses, and left me alone to play.

I walked out a happy customer, having bought my new speakers....
If the demo room isnot being used, what excuse do they have of not letting you use it?

Feel sorry for me then Shaun as I am going to look at a mobility scooter this afternoon

I might even give up one of the cars as I only seem to make journeys of around 10 miles or less on a daily basis, so the savings in tax, insurance, fuel and maintenance are also worth considering. I am also a bit worried if the DVLA might not renew my 3 year driving licence in a few month's time.

I went to Fanthorpes in Hull 2 weeks ago with a friend who wanted to listen to a couple of Sugden amps and 3 pair of speakers, the last pair being KEF Reference 1’s. Dave, who did the dem was really friendly, easy going, informative and very accommodating. 10/10 in our opinion, excellent!

Jesus Dominic, Tenapants all round then. What's a dribble between friends lol.

Thanks you guys for your words regarding my current health issues. I had a huge motorcycle smash when I was 18 and three years back the resulting osteoarthritis stopped me from walking. Yeah a new knee is on the cards but my left femur was so badly buggered up I have had to have re-construction surgery before anything else can be done. It is this that I am now recovering from with frequent visits to Sheffield for check ups and surgery.

Anyhow, off the cuff, Sue and I have just listened to Dali Oberon 5's and KEF R5's. As you would imagine the Dali's ended up submitting to the KEF's quite badly.

The problem..? The KEF's are just so bloody tall for our front room.

A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

Shame the dealer you originally went to was not customer focused, I hadexperienced similar, I just walked away and that was their loss.

I am not surprised the KEF's walk over the Dali's, they are over double the price so should be better. If you listened to the Dali Opticon 8's they would be comparable, although 9cm taller again.
The KEK R5's are only 9" taller than 36" tall Oberon 5', in my experience the SQ os speakers of this type are quite heavily impacted by the cabinet volume, having have Dali IKON 6's, KEF Reference 3.2's and Vienna Acoustic Grande SE Mozarts. The KEF's had super bass and control, the Dali's were good but lost bass depth, the Vienna Acoustics were a super speaker, the produce good and controlled bass but not in spade, the mid and top was wonderful. If you want VFM then I would definitely take a look at these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vienna-Ac...0AAOSw7iZeAHVv they would blow everything you have listened to out the water.

Thought my thoughts might help if you have not already purchased some speakers.

Hope you recover well from your injuries, it is horrible being in pain and unwell.

    Cheers

    Adrian
Listening is the act of aural discrimination and dissemination of sound, and accepting you get it wrong sometimes.

Just out of interest was the demo room free when you arrived or was someone else having, or due to have, a demo? If it had been set up carefully for someone later in the day I could understand that they wouldn't want to shift anything around.

I personally wouldn't turn up to a dealer and expect a demo without notice. How such a refusal is communicated however is another matter, if they were rude then that's totally not on.
