“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

"runs off some HDD's". Presumably these contain your music files?

These could be hanging off the back of an inexpensive PC (mine cost less than £50) running Minim Server (free).

Your Pioneer N30 would see this Media server via wi-fi & stream all files wirelessly. Control it all with a cheap Amazon Fire tablet (often available for £30) running Linn Kazoo (free). 100% galvanic isolation because there are no wires connecting the media server and the media renderer (Pioneer N30).

If you can stretch to £660 I would strongly recommend Etheregen network switch. I introduced one into my system fed from a powerline adapter ethernet and its made an enormous difference to soundstage, tone , musicality and resolution of my system.

If you cant stretch that far a second hand cisco 2960 switch is relatively cheap if you can get an LPS onto it assuming you already have one you can notice a difference over normal switches. This is where I was before the etheregen switch. I would save up for the etherregen if you dont currently have LPS for a normal network switch you can try one for 30 days for the price of return postage.

I got a similar benefit from a £20 Netgear switch and is better when powered by a battery. I suggest you try that first to see if it makes any difference to your sound.

Some of the netgear switches are pretty decent but the ciscos are better and the etherregen wayyy better.

There is a ground shunt modification you can make to typical walwart smps that make a significant improvement improvements too if you just have a standard switch too. Good thread on audiophile style with much discussion on this modification.
