I guess hardly anyone buys from shops any more.
I invested in HMV just before it went bust the first time round. It was actually a bit of an accident, as I was trying to show a friend how to use a share dealing platform. I didn't think it was about to go belly up at the time. Cost me a few £££s. OTOH I had many bargains from HMV over the years, and even a few since the take overs - no point in worrying about that.
Physical shops in the UK are going to have a rough time for a while, I think - and I'm not sure if CDs/vinyl etc are going to survive in high street outlets. I have had many CDS from charity shops over the last decade.

Not used the Byres Road shop for a number years, Fopp used to be a great record shop but that was in the pre HMV days. I usually go into the city centre Fopp when in town but the stock is just the same as HMV .

Internet will finish everything before long. I for one cant stand shopping on line. But it all to do with convenience these days..
Our local HMV closed in the late 90's... I never liked Fopp, when the Sheffield shop was open i noticed loads of cheapo CD issues from the Netherlands..

If the present Vinyl FAD continues technically used record store should thrive. I try to avoid moden Vinyl pressings like the plague for a handful of reasons. I m sure a lot feel the same.

rather like hmv , i discover heaps of films that i would never have thought about through searching online . hope they manage to continue in the other locations .
ou might slip, you might slide, you might
Stumble and fall by the road side
But don't you ever let nobody drag your spirit down
Remember you're walking up to heaven
Don't let nobody turn you around
… Walk with the rich, walk with the poor
Learn from everyone, that's what life is for
And don't you let nobody drag your spirit down

I couldn't care less about HMV: they forced a few smaller record dealers out of business here, all of which were much more helpful and knowledgeable than HMV. The staff in HMV are pretty useless - all they know about a disc or record is how much it costs: wow I didn't know you could find that out by reading the price tag!
Fopp were IMO no better.
