Default Mdac plus volume query confused!

I have just purchased the mdac plus.

    The default volume is -40.
    Way too low.
Should I increase volume on the dac. Or the amp.

Some say increase on the dac, others have told me increase on amp to avoid distortion.

    Confused.

Isn't full volume on the DAC equivalent to a "normal" line out? I have the Project Pre S2 now but I thought the MDAC (when I had one) had the option of a fixed line level out anyway so that the volume made no difference.

The Mdac (not the plus) has the choice of disabling the volume at 0db (which I do) or using the adjustable volume which presumably starts at a low volume level. Is the Plus the same?

Ah ok fair enough. On my Pre S2 there isn’t a fixed line out either so setting the volume at 0dB, ie no attenuation, is what’s advised for line out.

    Fixed it guys.
God knows why I didn’t see it.

Theres a setting say. Volume adjustment. Changed it to 0db 2.2vrms.
Put the dac in fixed mode.
    I feel like an idiot.
    Thanx again guys
