Hello Andy. Welcome to AOS.
Many older members (and possibly a few younger ones) started out with an SP25. It was the standard basis for a first system.

It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Welcome to AoS Andy.
Yes, quite a few of us started with a Garrard SP25 (mine was a Mk.II).
Sadly SME stopped any repair and servicing of the Series II arms a few years ago, and now the company has been sold on, the new owners do not seem to be at all interested in helping owners of their products. However, after the development of the Series IV and V arms, SME sold off their stock of parts for the Series II arms to private sellers on eBay; so all the component parts are still available, albeit at a price.
Hoping you can get your SME arm sorted out soon,
Enjoy the Forum
