    Yes - Inspiring indeed.

I have noticed lately TV news readers with some disabilities (such as standing with the aid of a cane) are starting to appear, along with weather forecasters who have lost their lower arm. But they are in a minority - we still have a long way to go in this regard.

Um, in case it's escaped your notice disabled people are a minority in general, therefore it's quite correct that they're in the minority on TV.

But in the past they would not have appeared on TV at all. Then it was a case of "out of sight, out of mind".

But now they're not, problem solved.

Or should every other person on TV be disabled however disproportionate that may be of the population?

That's not the problem or the attitude really.
But you often have to be disabled to get it.

    To get what?

My only issue is with the perception that "But they are in a minority - we still have a long way to go in this regard"

Of course they're in the minority both in the general population and on TV.

It sounds like a suggestion that there should be a disproportionate number of disabled TV presenters?

    Why?

There shouldn't be a perception. Same with colour quotas I guess.
As soon as they are seen on there merits, while still given same opportunities via access and most importantly how they are perceived, then job will be a good un, whether there is 1 or 51

Most female (main) news presenters and weather presenters are attractive, that’s disproportionate.

You're missing the point though, Gary. Barry's simply saying that disabled people should still be better represented on TV than they are now, simply for reasons of tolerance and equality.

Therefore, it doesn't matter whether able-bodied people outweigh disabled people in the world; what matters is that there is no discrimination against disabled people in jobs where their disability doesn't prevent them from doing the job just as well as someone who's able-bodied.

That's it, and the exact same applies when it comes to race or colour.
