    I'm Chris.

    Default Speaker magnets

Now here's a bit if a scientific question to test you guys.

If one surrounds the magnet on a drive unit with metal as in the use of a clamp to support the driver will it affect the magnet itself and in particular the sound quality?

    Thanks Chris

Depends on whether the metal used for the support is permeable or not.

If aluminium: no, if steel: yes.

That was my feeling. I like to take things to extremes to resolve discussions and pictured surrounding the magnet with 1 ton of steel. The poor little driver magnet would have its work cut out trying to set up a magnetic field in that mass and could not give enough effort to the voice coil area. Or is that a bit simplistic.?
