I would completely agree, when I went to Mik's over 3 years ago and heard his systems, albeit with a top end SME 20 with 12" arm and a high end cartridge, the musical sound quality was quite overwhelming. Mik is a lovely chap, extremely knowledgable and very helpful, and has helped me on my hifi path greatly, as you have as well Nari.
Listening is the act of aural discrimination and dissemination of sound, and accepting you get it wrong sometimes.

Mik's rockports are very much optimised and each one has its own charm they are certainly worth a listen, I have sat in there being spell bound on many a occasion and even the finest decks in there get left for dust. The first time one walks in it is quite a shock to be honest and seeing Mik virtually having to climb over gear is quite a sight indeed.

I visited Mik's yesterday to pick up a cartridge, I got to hear his system yet again it was truly magical he was not using his big amplifiers but the highly tuned Lfd Master reference amps bi amped. The sound was rather special indeed with real grip and depth which left my system for dust in many ways. The lfd amps are a real shocker they have a very ultra low grain presentation that is quite captivating. The bass had real control and scale, but not only did it have all these qualities it simply made music. The turntable he was using was the Japanese Cs port with its own tonearm fitted with a custom Etsuro cartridge and the spj alba one off turntable, koetsu bule onyx diamond cantilever combination, the cs port was fast and impactful, while the spj was very captivating with its full powerful midrange and a real sence of grace and majesty I enjoyed the spj a bit more on the music we played and it had this real hug me sound. At the same time it had dynamics and speed. Mik erred towards the cs port but both were wonderful.

I, too, had the pleasure of visiting Mik's 'Aladdin's cave' earlier this year. As others have said already, his enthusiasm, knowledge and dedication to the recreation of pure music, are second to none. Although going back to my piddling little system was tough, it did show me just what can be extracted from those vinyl grooves if you spend a lifetime in the pursuit of excellence.
