I do have an amount of early hip hop recordings, Public Enemy, Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, but I don't play them very often. I sometimes like rappers' contributions on music of other genres, Like Q-Tip (never get bored with his voice)appearing on a couple of Chemical Brothers tunes, and Snoop with Gorillaz (Plastic Beach). "Gangsta Rap" generally has me running for the hills.

Perhaps some of these hip hop/R'n'B artists would be more palatable if they moved to a different genre, where their talent could be better appreciated, without all that "Look at me, I've got all this money and all these cars and I'm totally badass" crap. An example would be Mary J. Blige, one of my favourite female vocalists, who made U2's "One" worth listening to, while I can't be doing with her singing on her 'home turf'. Exception being her Jools Holland performance of "No Drama", which for me was just brilliant.
I just dropped in, to see what condition my condition was in

T/T: Inspire Monarch, X200 tonearm, Ortofon Quintet Blue. Phono: Project Tube Box CD: Marantz CD6006 (UK Edition); Amp: Musical Fidelity A5 Integrated.
Speakers: Zu Omen Def, REL T9i subwoofer. Cables: Atlas Equator interconnects, Atlas Hyper 3.0 speaker cables

    T'other system:
Echo Dot, Amptastic Mini One,Arcam A75 integrated, Celestion 5's, BK XLS-200 DF

    A/V:
LG 55" OLED, Panasonic Blu Ray, Sony a/v amp, MA Radius speakers, REL Storm sub

Forget the past, it's gone. And don't worry about the future, it doesn't exist. There is only NOW.

Coolio, dude... One of my favourite tracks at the moment for its cool groove, and just INSANE bass is this from Drake:

Honestly, crank that track right up - it's a pure low-frequency riot... In the car, I can get the glass on back window flexing like an accordion, just above the sub, and almost feel ill with the bass!!!

    BOOYAKASHA!!

Nice idea, but probably wrong for so many people. I'm retired, and I know many others too. They're not all like me/us. Many have grandchildren who take up a lot of their time, for many reasons. Some still have aged relatives to look after. Some are ill, or have partners who are not so well, and spend their time going to doctors and medical appointments. Then there are funerals to go to - which some people do a lot. Very oddly, I discovered a few years ago that there seem to be some "professional" funeral attendees in some areas.

Then there are the ones who have time, but then fill it up with going on holiday every few weeks.

There are, I'm sure, many reasons why retired people just don't have enough time. As with trying to get a work life balance if one is working, there will continue to be a balancing act between different activities even for retired people. Listening to music may still have to be scheduled into the overall time plan, unless of course one really has nothing much else to do - ever. I think for many people that's unlikely.

Absolutely Dave, but none of that applies to Macca, whom my comments were aimed at. When he retires, he'll have fuck all to do all but sleep, eat and watch porn > REPEAT > sleep, eat and watch porn > REPEAT > Sleep...

Yeah. Since I retired, I wonder where I found the time for a job. There's always something I have to be involved in.

A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
