    I've got it on original UK pressing and I've got the re-mastered CD. Can't fault either and it was only a budget recording to begin with. Or maybe that's why it sounds good?

    With that particular album, I find the vinyl (just the original UK pressing) better than the CD. It's actually a good example that ably highlights the differences between all digital and all analogue recordings, and probably why many, if they didn't own the best T/T set-up at the time, preferred the 'all-shiny new' CD!

    I think Dire Straits should do a compilation of just the intros to their best known tracks - they seem to specialise in particularly protracted intro sections but by the time the track starts proper I’ve lost interest.

    Reminds me - I was listening to the Eagles the other night (no Lebowski quotes please!) - the album 'One Of These Nights', and although I've owned it for 30 odd years and played it a million times I was struck by just how good it is. Not just the production, but the lyrics, the song structures, and the musicianship. In pretty much every respect it is so much more accomplished than the utter shit that passes for music these days that there really can be no comparison.

    So I'll happily stay stuck in the past and just thank god that there was so much music made back then when people actually understood what music is.

    i wouldn't consider myself " stuck " in the last as I like lots of more up to date stuff as well as the old stuff. As for steely Dan, they wrote some good music but I used to know a pub band that played their stuff way better. I always think there sound is a bit off, guitar tones are awful. I suppose of their time.
