Yes, of course you're right Joe, I've recently moved and certainly being reminded of that in a hard way!

For me now it's the amplification that's make or break. Never thought I'd end up there. In the olden days it was always either source first or speakers first, you had to be one or the other. No-one ever worried about the bits in the middle.

Most of his jokes were banal and harmless, though I did like his joking about the water tank being a sub-woofer. However his impression of the record seller, who having suffered a stroke and unable to talk clearly, was IMO beyond the pale.

Lol - I'll debate that one with you another day! Have you ever heard car audio, done right, using the likes of a top-notch Alpine or Pioneer cassette machine, playing top-notch recordings on chrome tape, made on a top-notch hi-fi system?

The shocking quality of pre-recorded tapes was largely what let down cassette players!

I don't disagree - I only ever bought 2 pre-recorded cassettes I can think of - but had a mediocre cassette deck and amp back then, and even using a good turntable, the recordings were easily beaten by the CD multi-changer in the Kenwood system in the car. I have heard some decent setups back in the day, but we're comparing apples with pears - and that's why CD won, because you could just pop them in the player with no faff and it sounded better to what everyone was used to, unless you were an enthusiast. And the reason streaming has taken over from CD is that to most people Apple Music/Spotify/Deezer etc. doesn't sound any worse than CD, but is ultimately much more convenient, and either free or at a much lower cost.

Think I only heard your TT once, it was at NEBO 5 or 6, but it was enough to convince me that vinyl was the way to go.

I may be a bit unusual in the audiophile world as I gave up on vinyl in 1983/84 and was CD based only until I heard a TT again in 2014. I had honestly not heard a piece of vinyl in those years but that experience in 2014 made me completely give up CD and return back to vinyl and unlike most folk replacing their treasured vinyl with CD versions I did the opposite!
