Yes, I fully agree, but you're missing the point, mate. None of that is the car's fault, is it?

Well, forget the bad drivers, I've just outlined a very valid point for said cars existing: i.e so that folks like me, who are good drivers and can handle them safely, can *have some fun*

What they want to do then, is vet the type of folk who are permitted to own such cars [so that it's not simply based on the contents of their wallets], and make them pass a test to show that they're competent to drive them FIRST, before being allowed to have the keys!

I didn't say it was the cars fault. Just that there are so few roads now and so few people good enough drivers with enough sense to know when to have their fun that there is little point in having them. I agree that buyers of performance cars etc should have special tests on ability and road sense

So it's up to govt to make sure buyers are up to it, and in a big way. It should also mean extra training.
    This would help reduce accidents

Yes, so you son't penalise folk who are able to handle performance cars properly, by stopping "silly quick" cars from being built; you take appropriate steps to ensure that "silly quick" cars can only be owned and driven by suitably competent drivers!

    *That* is my point

Plus, if you live pretty much anywhere in Wales, outside of the built up areas around Cardiff and Swansea, or many parts of rural Scotland and Ireland, there are still plenty of roads to have fun on with a fast car (within speed limits).

I never really said otherwise. But the rds are becoming so overcrowded now speed will have to become a consideration unless we reduce traffic.
Let's face it. Half the cars on Rd are driven by people I wouldnt put in charge of a pushchair ffs.
The other half are trying to avoid being hit by them.
General standards of driving are abysmal quite frankly.

Gonna be fun when all automated cars try and share roads with all these arse holes lol. Be even more crashes and robots commiting hari kiri

Lol - you did. You said that you didn't see the point in cars that go "silly quick", and I've just outlined a very clear point!

Plus, as I said, there are still plenty of roads in the UK that aren't overcrowded. Honestly mate, if I go 20 mins outside of Wrexham, and head out into the sticks, I can drive on roads for miles and hardly see another car, pretty much at any time of the day {never mind if I lived in, say, West Wales, which is much more remote], and you can still do that in many parts of Scotland, too!

It's really only in or near big cities, and around the 'central belts' of the UK, particularly in the south of England, where roads are really overcrowded.

Anyway, returning to the thread topic, look how much things have changed in 11 years... Here's my Brabster, from 2008 (although mine is a near-dentical 2009 model):

Caterham used to insist that potential owners took a performance driving course (included in the price of the car) before letting them have their quickest cars. Don't know if this still happens

Apparently Porsche make their mechanics pass an advanced driving course before allowing them to road test cars. They're happy to sell them to any numpty with a fat wallet though

And I can pop down the bike shop and come away with something that has monster performance, no questions asked.
