Timeline history of most popular music artists from 1969 to 2019 ranked by yearly certified record sales. Numbers are worldwide and adjusted to twelve months trailing average.
Prepared by a first year PhD student and self confessed data geek who loves visualizations. He did good methinks

Totally fascinating and it really makes me think about how much 'I think' I know about music, when I don't even know the names let alone their music!

Might be more interesting if it was measured by actual Physical copies of each artist owned by real people

I think they should include the second hand market which has never gone away - it may have dipped for a while and unfortunately its ever more popular and prices are going off the scale !!!
