    Hi Jamie

The best 6SN7 is a 6f8g ;-) Identical, bar the pin out, easily remedied with an adapter.. It means you can find tungsol round plate equivalents (and others) for a lower price. They also seem to offer more 'space' to presentation. They also look quite wonderful.

this, or to see if the pre can play with 6J5 (in case only a half of 6SN7 is used) or 6N7, a plenty to choose from at a fraction of the inflated price of 6SN7

I'm sure it depends on other factors in the mix, just the same as cables. But the Black Treasure CV181 are very nice

Busy trawling my 100+ 6SN7 collection as we speak. Nowt wrong with the Russian valves. A good, strong GTB will deliver all you would want as a rule, for the rest its circuit dependent.
For example I have matched pairs of bad boys, bass monsters, mouse ears, all the main GT, GTA and GTB variants, but to be fair no smokey war issue toobs. As a man who likes a rabbit hole, this is as good a rabbit hole as the 300b equivalent. Best avoided is my advice

Sophia electric Royal princess 6SN7 was the best I tried with my 300B, don't know if they are still available as I'm out of touch with valves these days.
