    Default what does this do?

i cant for the life of me think of the point of this plastic sprung loaded part which sits under the motor housing lid of my sony tts-8000 tt. when the lid is screwed down the plastic clip runs on the boss on the spindle. so whats it for apart from creating noise? the tt runs fine without it and silent, ive been trying various lubricants to stop the faint scraping noise from silicone grease to 50 sae oil,the latter seems to be holding up so far.

    the sprung loaded clip,

the spindle boss it runs on,

Seriously? This is s high quality Japanese direct drive deck, not a Connoisseur BD1!

The Japanese engineers knew which way a record was supposed to rotate and made sure their motors only went that way...

It will, but on start up the vibration will make it engage with a directional notch or peg I'm betting.
