    Default WTD: Cheap Phono Stage

    Hello there,
I'm looking for a cheap phono stage (Rega Phono Mini, Edwards Audio Apprentice, etc.)

    Many thanks.

Sorry don't have one to offer (any more) but I have extensively tried both the ones you list and the Edwards blows the Rega away, so I would concentrate your search on one of them if SQ is the ultimate goal (of course it is!).

How about the Tisbury phono, there have been good reports and you can return it within 14 days if not happy with it?

Tisbury is £150 vs the £95 of the Rega Mini/Edwards Audio Apprentice, and I need it just for a second system.

Furthermore Rega is much more popular and easy to find second hand.

I had a good experience in the past with Angle Audio.

Hi Geoff, thank you for your offer, but I was thinking about something cheaper...

It is for my fourth deck, an old Pioneer PL112D.

You don't say if MM or MC use, but if you can find one a Cambridge Audio Azur 540P or 640P would be a good choice, usually around £100.
Listening is the act of aural discrimination and dissemination of sound, and accepting you get it wrong sometimes.

Analog Inputs: Pro-Ject Signature 10 TT & arm, Benz Micro LP-S, Michel Cusis MC, Goldring 2500 and Ortofon Rondo Blue cartridges, Hitachi FT5500 mk2 Tuner

Digital:- Marantz SA-KI Pearl CD player, RaspberryPi/HifiBerry Digi+ Pro, Buffalo NAS Drive

Amplification:- AudioValve Sunilda phono stage, Krell KSP-7B pre-amp, Krell KSA-80 power amp

Output: Wilson Benesch Vector speakers, KLH Ultimate One Headphones

Cables: Tellurium Q Ultra Black II RCA & Chord Epic 2 RCA, various speaker leads, & links

I think I am nearing audio nirvana, but don’t tell anyone.
