I'm Martyn.
Phil, I guess you already saw these? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254375020244
One bass driver looks well knackered but perhaps it can be fixed or a replacement found?
I have K2s which I use in an active crossover setup. The improvement in sound quality was huge, pointing to the original drivers being fine but the caps in the passive crossover needing renewing. It is a simple passive crossover so if you do get some K2s well worth doing.
Also this. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183971375199
Current: [P20] Roon/Tidal > Custom PC> Chevron Paradox NDF16 > Phast Pre > Neuro. 686 > Tannoy Berkley (RFC tweaks)
Unfortunately, the Magnums have the wrong bass driver in one, not a knackered one, but a cheapo replacement.
And, the Mezzo's have the wrong tweeters.
Best keep looking.
By the way, the biggest problem with the Magnum and Magister K2's is the vinyl 'skin' lifting away from the cone surface.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
Thanks.
Yes, i saw those, but i am not very mobile as i have no car.
So, it is just a like for like cap replacement?
I’m keen not to get into too many mods.
I upgraded tne crossovers on my jbls and it soon becomes quite expensive if the crossover gets more complicated with too many caps.
Thanks
Which are the best sounding with a simple crossover refresh?
Mezzo, magnum k2, or magister?
I don't want to get in to swapping drivers or expensve mods.
The Magisters are the most fun. They have a big beefy presentation, not exactly refined, but entertaining nonetheless.
Changing caps shouldn't be expensive, just use Alcaps.
