“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Yesh, all that natural goodness helps 'firm up' my plops, but sometimes when I'm really busy (it does happen occasionally) I forget to drink enough fluids or delay eating for too long, skip breakfast or whatever, I'll get seriously bad headaches, in which case I'll take a couple of paracetamol - but *that* is it for me in terms of tablets!

I detest pumping my body full of chemicals, as there are always nasty side-effects. Really we should be practicing the use of more natural (plant-based) remedies for our ailments, Chinese medicine, etc, which in many cases is better and much less intrusive, but of course that doesn't suit the financial interests of the multi-billion pound making fat-cat pharmaceutical companies!!

Some of us have no choice on the drug front, it’s do or die prematurely, however I have questioned a lot of what I’ve been prescribed due to adverse reactions.

I was awake again at 12:45, probably due to a cold and worrying about another CT scan which I am sat waiting for, I should get the results next week. The last year feels like a continuous stream of medical appointments and procedures, never mind.

You have all my sympathy. Just got my wife back home after a week in hospital. Chemo wiped out her immune resulting in sepsis and then other issues caused by domestos levels of a number of antibiotics.
It’s all scary stuff. Truly hope that all turns out well and we can all enjoy a restful Xmas.

Absolutely, and as Steve said, you have my sympathy. However, some folks [unlike you] are obsessive pill-poppers/hypochondriacs, and forever taking this tablet or that for their minor ailments, and bothering busy doctors, when most of the time whatever it is mother nature will cure in the fulness of time.

I've got to be *really* bad with something before I'll bother a doctor, and in terms of pills for pain relief, will often choose to suffer instead than take any form of chemicals. I do feel for those like yourself though, Adrian, who have little option but to taken them.

Have you ever experimented with some natural remedies/herbal medicines though, or is that not a viable option to treat the condition(s) you suffer from?

Natural/herbal remedies are not always a good thing. Some modern medicine is actually based on earlier "natural" medicines, but some seems to be based on supserstition. Some people who turn to such natural medicines do so out of desperation.

Best wishes to all who are taking significant medication here - natural or otherwise - but take care, and try to stay happy - and do read the instructions and other documents relating to what you take!

Try telling that to the whales, the sharks, the rhinos, the tigers...at least Smithkline Beecham (or whatever the name of the day is) never tried to tell us that powdered dolphin sphincter is good for constipation. At least not in the UK.
