Tonight I've given up the struggle to go back to sleep and it's now 4.24am. Hopefully I'll resume a horizontal pose in an hour or so, but right now that's not working.

Nearly time to give up. I wonder what caused this - hasn't happened for a while.

Maybe the decaff coffee I had around 9pm - and yes - I know that people think decaff is OK - but that was the first one I've had for weeks.

Not had any booze since last Sunday and I'm back to waking up early. Clearly some sort of connection. I wonder how many of the insomniacs are teetotal?

Even if I do drink it's only one, or occasionally two, cans of Guinness. But it does seem to have a considerable 'doping' effect on me.

Booze, even small amounts relaxes the brain so you will probably sleep better. Too much can cause other issue tho and your sleep will maybe have issues that leave you tired.
Or so I've found.. Now where is that bottle

You need to beware of short term effects, and uncertain correlations. Post hoc ergo propter hoc - doesn't always work. You might find that if you keep off the booze that the tendency to wake up diminishes. Some research tends to show that alcohol isn't really a good idea, though I use it sometimes. I think that you might find that if you go and move a ton of logs each day you'll sleep better - dare I say it - like a ___.

I'm just wondering if the insomniacs are predominantly single? Maybe having a nice cuddly woman next to you in bed may promote better kip .
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
