I was in bed. Lol. Fell asleep at a guess about 5.30 so had about 4 hrs. I could sleep now but that's no good so will force myself up.
My brain just wouldn't shut down

No doubt you've tried pretty much everything, but I find that reading a book gets my brain relaxed enough to drop off after a few minutes. No good the book being too much of a 'page turner', and magazines are a no-no. But then if the story is too boring, my mind will just wander to whatever I'm trying to switch off from.

Big heavy books are excellent for aiding sleep - if the story doesn't do the trick, get someone to whack you over the head with it

I don't normally have a problem getting off to sleep, but aches and pains kick in after a while, waking me up. I could do with something to numb the aches a bit and will last through the night, and that is not too strong and not potentially addictive. Not going to go on about it though, you and Adrian have it much worse, and you have my sympathy.

Dog woke me up three times during the night, pawing me and prodding with its hooter, wanting a snack I think. I'll have to train her out of that, maybe a boot up the arse might do it.

Maybe she just wanted you out of her kennel. That's the problem with getting pissed and losing your keys

What's causing the aches and pains then, sweety - too much pressure in your colon from excessive excreta formation, and needing 'imminent release'?

I find that simply shutting my eyes, gets my 'brain' relaxed enough to drop off after a few minutes... Seriously though, I hope your aches and pains diminish soon. Could just be old age?

A combination of lifting weights like a man possessed in my yoof, falling off motorbikes, and falling through scaffold I think. So the aches aren't likely to be going anywhere anytime soon. My colon has had a lifetime to get used to its workload.

Ah I see... Fortunately I never had any bad falls when I was younger, aside from bumping my head hard into a lamppost when I was four. I think it's why I've ended up being a little 'different'.

Had numerous... Fell through scaffold once.. Well legs did. I did my knee and had to have an op.

Has this given you any problems later in life? I hear people say how long-past injuries can become arthritic, don't know if it's true, but seems likely

Hardly had a drink since my wife became ill (needed to be on standby). But had a couple of hefty glasses of red last night, which is why I reckon I’m staring at the ceiling at 4:00 am.
