Steve, thanks for your kind words, I hope your wife wins her personal battle, any serious illness is hard to deal with, and it can be very hard for those nearest and dearest. All you can doo is be there and support her, just like my Sue is for me.

I’m ok, just a bit numb with it all, but I battle on and keep popping the tablets.

My best wishes to you both,

    Adrian

Have you ever experimented with some natural remedies/herbal medicines though, or is that not a viable option to treat the condition(s) you suffer from?

    Hi Marco

Thanks for your concern most appreciated. Unfortunately I am one of the yearly many diagnosed with Cardiovascular disease in the UK. A fact not many realise is it kills more people than Cancer.

As for natural replacements for drugs it is a very difficult area with CVD, however I was prescribed a product called Omacor which is a refined fish oil very similar to cod liver oil, it is very high in omega 3 and 6, in 4 weeks it halved my cholesterol level and I am now 2.5 to 3 regularly, with 1/3 being the bad LDL which is fine.

    Cheers

It is available on the NHS as they trialed it and got proven results. The consultant on the cardiac ward when u had my bypass prescribed as he said the Gp would not want to as 30 tablets are £25 and I have one in the morning and one at night. In the consultants words the gps try to protect their budgets, but if the hospital prescribes it the GP has to.

I told a friend and she persuaded her GP to prescribe it and she has nearly halved her cholesterol level.

There is a new drug being trialled hooch is a pcsk9 enzyme inhibitor, this enzyme stops the body getting rid of cholesterol, so inhibit it and then get rid of cholesterol. It is injected 2-4 times a year and it works, it is seen as the end of statins in the future.

    Now that really is interesting.
Not heard of Omacor.. however back in 1997 we went to live in India. I’d been given the job of developing the business out there for Croda International. They were big producers of super refined oils, including fish, borage, evening primrose etc. The products were so pure that they could be used for injectables and in fact the fish oil supplied to Seven Seas for their low taste fish oil.
Being before the internet we used to get regular packs sent to us with all the medical research on the benefits of supplements donating omega 3&6, DHA and GLA. It was powerful stuff and for years me and my wife would regularly take oil capsules.
Now ... I’ve got really lazy and not bothered for a few years now. My cholesterol has now gone over 7.
    Time to revisit all this.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

Slightly bonkers, but I think I’ve just ordered 28 Omacor capsules on line from Pharmacy 2u.
Zero cost as I don’t pay for prescriptions (probably like most of us on this part of the forum!!)
    Many thanks
