    Default Pro-ject RCM rust

Thought I'd say my VCS mk2 is being sent back under warranty. The problem is the nut & screw that sits under the vacuum arm in the main chassis is covered in thick rust. My view is that steel placed in the path of fluid should be stainless steel so basically a design flaw.

The new VCS announced has an aluminium case. I'm hoping that's not because the mk2 mdf case rots!

...... You may want to check yours!

... Another update : My retailer tells that they are dealing with a number of warranty claims for the VCS including a failed vacuum, failed switches and motors with excessive noise when turning anticlockwise. Maybe some isolated cases....

Not so isolated. My VCS which I have now replaced with a Mk2 has just gone back with a failed Vacuum, and a motor with excessive noise while turning in either direction. The new Mk2 is very much quieter and the vacuum more powerful.

Hmm not so good then. Actually the retailer told me they had 4 machines to go back (Inc mine) and all are mk2. Mine has the rust but it's noisy too. And I agree the new aluminium version does have a much superior spec. I'd happily pay the difference given the chance!

Having not heard another I've no idea whether mine is noisy or not, given that it's a hoover in a wooden box I just expected it to be loud anyway.

Hi Matt - the main reason Henley wanted mine returned under warranty was the rust issue though I did tell them (and the retailer) that the noise is not the vac itself thats basically OK and is much as i expected. The noise is coming from the mechanics rather than the motor that turns the 'platter' - well thats what it seems to me. Its a chain or sloppy gearbox type noise that is much louder anticlockwise. Seems to me thats not right otherwise I think it would be well known and the retailer/Henley would be aware. Hopefully they will test in and tell what they'll do or not.
