Indeed, which unless you have money to burn, makes it crazy to buy new!

So an extra £3k for the experience to arguably feel a little "more special"? And that was just with the example you've given.....

Get searching on the Internet, folks, for the 'brand new' car bargains that are out there!

    You choose:

A 'brand new' car, replete with "brand spanking feel", with 7 miles on the clock, for thousands of pounds less.

Or a brand new car, with no miles on the clock, for thousands of pounds more. Both have the same "brand spanking feel".

Surely only the daftest of daftees would opt for the latter?

Our own recent new cars are now nearing 12 years old. We used sites like Drive the Deal to find dealers with the best deal. It it fits in with “your” schedule (it did with ours, for various reasons) you can get good deals on new cars, but it may involve driving 1-200 miles, or getting a train. We got one car from Stafford, and another from Sheffield.

Another friend buys used cars in a similar way. The cost saving (particularly in the SE) more than pays for a one way train fare to pick up a car, and the journey may be combined with a day out.

Yups... I'd drive any amount of miles (in the UK) to get the *right* car, and indeed have done. Bought cars from Scotland, and my current one was from a dealer in Derby [near-200 mile round trip]. Like you say, the trip is treated as day out, usually combined with lunch!

Far more rewarding than just lazily walking into your nearest dealership and paying full whack for virtually the same thing [using the example you gave earlier]. The thousands of pounds saved can be spent on a nice holiday!
