Phew! Looks like it’s all sorted! I cleaned out the green gunk and until the oil I’ve ordered arrives, I’m using some light oil from the local petrol station. It’s now running very well. I did the spin test again and it went for over 2 minutes... result. Thanks again Struth.

Good it's working. Sounds like there's been a reaction in the well. Maybe an engine oil been used. They work for a while then cause corrosion as there are additives in them for engine cleaning etc. Be OK for a short time tho

Oh my god! There's nothing wrong with the bidet is there?

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

If the TT is running slow, how come the stroboscope indicates the correct speed? Or do you mean the TT takes a long time to reach the correct speed? If the latter, then clean out the bearing well and replace the oil. A new belt may also help.

A well maintained TD125 ought to reach the correct speed (according to the strobe) within one revolution of the platter.

Oops - seems you have already found the problem. Well done!

Even so, I would use the correct oil which can be obtained from Schopper in Switzerland. They are experts in the maintenance of vintage Thorens TTs. https://www.schopper.ch/index.php?pa...125-spareparts
