    so tested the tranny 9v windings read 9.6v and 19.23v across the 2

    165v winding reads 176.4v - seems too high so is it borked?

    If you mean not connected to the PCB etc then yes.

    They are about 7% higher when not drawing current, which is not unusual.

    Ah ok thanks for that, so for 165v that puts it at 176.56v which is almost dead on , that's a relief as when it heated up so much I was worried I'd blown it .

    No doubt, me and my bright ideas! lol . Had a good look at the bottom of the board and nothing stood out to my eyes under a magnifier. will check again but hard to know where to start. At least it soundslike I don't need a new traffo so every cloud etc.
