It certainly doesn't sound right. Try different software, but if you need an external drive try one of these - I've bought dozens of them for work (as PCs these days have no drives) and had no problems for a tenner - albeit never used one to rip to FLAC. https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/produc...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Same thing happened to me. I rebuilt my laptop as it was generally slow and reinstalled EAC, also changed the settings to reduce the checks/accuracy of the rip. It then took about 8 minutes. I suspect most of that improvement was from the settings in EAC, have a look in options (or advanced options, and you might need to change from simple user to advanced or whatever it's called IIRC) and reduce error correction etc. If your CDs are clean and not scratched it won't make any difference to the SQ.

I found Foobar 2000 very good for ripping cd’s, a lot quicker then EAC and also free.

As above use foobar or even iTunes.

Did you calibrate your drive in eac?

EAC will rescan until it gets a "perfect" read. I only use it when I am trying to rip a very dodgy CD

    The drive needs auto calibrate.
Click on EAC button at the top left of page, and click on drive options.
Move around the tabs, and in one of them you'll find a detect button.
Click on that, and let it do its thing - you will need a CD in the drive before you click it.

Be patient, as it can take a while.

Not all disc rippers are created equal, be careful.
For the most “accurate” rip (some may not care or even notice, which of course is ok) from experience I’d use either EAC or DBPoweramp, the latter being my preference.

Ripping speed can depend on your drive and computer grunt, but the two I mentioned above give the most accurate rip imo.
Aside the most accurate ripping tools DbPoweramp also does a data bit check on each track it rips, and compares your rip to it’s database of other users rips of that same CD.
So know your rip is accurate.

Free full functional 30 day trial available, downgrades to free version after that, where you lose the most accurate ripping settings.
Not expensive for full version, worth it if you rip a lot of CDs
    AC POWER
Hardwired 10kVA balanced mains powering entire system
    AMPS
Meridian 557 power Amp (Modded) / PS Audio BHK Preamp (Modded)

    Wharfedale Evo 4.4
    DAC
    PS Audio Directstream (Modded)
    TURNTABLE
Pro-Ject X8 balanced output via XLR / Ortofon Quintet Blue cartridge
    PHONOSTAGE
Pro-Ject DS3 B balanced Input (TT and Phonostage powered by Pro-Ject Power box RS2 linear psu)
    DIGITAL
OPPO 203 (Modded: Linear PSU, i2s output to Dac) - Roon Endpoint, HDMI input used for all things Streaming/ PS5 /AppleTV ... also good for movies apparently?
    MUSIC PLAYBACK
Tweaked AP-Linux based Roon Server into Oppo 203 as Roon endpoint
    Ipad Roon Remote.
Apple Music/ YouTube via AppleTV, fed to Dac via Oppo HDMI input/i2s output to Dac.
    SPEAKER CABLES
Biwired: Duelund DCA10GA (Bass) Duelund DCA16GA (mid & treble) Duelund 12DCA used as jumpers (On
"Blackcat Cable" Chris Sommivigo's advice - yup, even with biwire it sounds better - and it does)
    INTERCONNECTS
All Balanced: Ghost+ recording studio XLR cables

My preference is also for DbPoweramp. You can fine tune the "accuracy" of the ripping. I only resort to EAC when DbPoweramp can't rip without errors. Well worth purchasing a license.

After trying all sorts of solutions without success I remembered I had an old DELL Inspiron laptop which was destined for the knackers yard many years ago. So I loaded the EAC software and Accuripped a full album in 5 minutes. Way to go

A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”
